Description: Distinguished from his English cousins by his finer bones, more leg length and more angulated hindquarters. The American Foxhound was not bred to be a family pet, but if he is well socialized as a young pup he will adapt to family life. He has a tendency to want to roam, but will adapt to his environment if properly cared for. Favored as a hunting dog he has a keen nose and a remarkable talent to instinctively bark on the fox's trail. He is exceptionally athletic and is very willing to work.
